Multiple sclerosis and various cannabis treatments.

Cannabis contains many biologically active chemicals, including cannabinoids. Cannabidiol (CBD) and Δ9-tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) are typically the most concentrated cannabis substances. They are believed to primarily drive the therapeutic benefits in inhibiting some symptoms of multiple sclerosis (MS). There is evidence that CBD has many beneficial pharmacological effects. It is an anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, antipsychotic and neuroprotective.

Hemp therapy

There is no chosen treatment for multiple sclerosis (MS), either in Poland or internationally. It is an incurable and progressive disease. However, there are natural methods to slow its progression and alleviate the main symptoms. Studies show that CBD with THC in a 1:1 ratio reduces muscle spasticity and pain. The American Academy of Neurology has highlighted cannabis' safety profile, as well as its therapeutic benefits. Some studies suggest that cannabinoids may have positive health effects by reducing inflammation in the nervous system and reducing pain. In addition, inflammation plays an important role in generating the fatigue associated with MS - particularly chronic peripheral inflammation resulting from excessive vagus nerve activity.

Roberto Bergamaschi, an Italian specialist in the treatment of MS, describes the safety profile of CBD, emphasizing that catalepsy is not induced, and physiological parameters (heart rate, blood pressure and body temperature) are not altered. In addition, psychomotor and mental functions are not affected. High doses of up to 1,500 mg per day and long-term repeated use have been well tolerated by people. In addition, there is evidence that CBD can reduce the negative psychotropic effects of THC (memory impairment, anxiety and psychotic states) while enhancing its positive therapeutic effects.

Interest in Poland

Thanks to changes in society's view of cannabis as a medicine rather than a drug, there is growing interest in cannabis therapy. People suffering from multiple sclerosis require continuous and daily therapy and taking several individual medications for muscle spasticity, painkillers, anti-inflammatories and antidepressants, among others. This disease is unfortunately the cause of mental health breakdown.

It turns out that cannabis can naturally act on several symptoms simultaneously. Not only that! They also contribute to improving mood. People with MS who take Medical Marijuana allow themselves to be more happy and smile. They are optimistic about life and are eager to take a walk.

THC significantly reduces muscle spasticity and inhibits pain signals. CBD, on the other hand, has an anti-inflammatory and neuroprotective. But these are just two of the most well-known cannabinoids, of which there are hundreds in hemp! In addition to cannabinoids, hemp has a number of auxiliary substances in its composition, such as terpenes flavonoids, tannins. Terpenes have very high medical potentialy and enhance the effects of cannabinoids.

Another advantage is that they can be taken long-term without much or any side effects compared to pharmaceutical drugs. This makes Medical Marijuana is able to replace several different medications with a good treatment effect and does not compromise your health with side effects.

How to take cannabinoids?

There are several methods of treatment with cannabinoids. Medical Marijuana with a high concentration of THC is available by prescription in dried plant form. The best way is to vaporize the herb. There are special devices for this - vaporizers. This protects our lungs from the harmful effects of smoke. During vaporization there is no pyrolysis process, which destroys a significant part of the valuable substances.

Storz&Bickel is the only company in the world that produces vaporizers with medical certification. The equipment of this manufacturer is the only one covered by reimbursement in Germany. Recently there was a great review of the latest Volcano Hybrid model on Polish Youtube.

As for CBD, we have the option of taking it in dried form or in the form of CBD oils taken orally under the tongue. The oils are a great alternative for people who don't necessarily want to vaporize or smoke the dried plant. The oils, moreover last longer than cannabnoids administered by inhalation.

Several studies confirm that CBD-rich hemp is effectively used to improve mobility in multiple sclerosis. The key is to develop drugs with the right ratio of individual cannabinoids so that treatment can be even more effective in treating specific MS symptoms.
